Annotation:The Journal of Poverty is the first refereed journal designed to provide a focused outlet for discourse on poverty and inequality. Poverty means more than “the condition or quality of being poor, in need, indigent, or lacking means of subsistence.” The meaning of poverty also refers to “a deficiency in necessary properties or desirable qualities or in a specific quality, inferiority, or inadequacy.” Currently, poverty and inequality are only occasionally mentioned in journal articles, so this journal encourages a more progressive orientation toward poverty and inequality, especially given current concerns with welfare reform at national and state levels.
