Learning in digital transition: Organizations, Groups and Individuals

From a sociological perspective, Kathleen Warnhoff investigates in her dissertation how continuing learning processes in German industrial enterprises change with the introduction of digital technologies.

She therefore uses ethnographic methods to observe and question selected employees in their work context over a longer period of time.

The results of the study provide information on the question of how the employees' learning processes in industrial companies are organized when digital technologies are introduced into the everyday working life. Furthermore, the reconstruction of obstacles in company learning processes from the employees' point of view is discussed in order to develop normative criteria for learning in human-machine interactions. This enables systematic design approaches for a working life conducive to learning in highly automated work settings. Regarding Good Work, the aim is to develop recommendations on how these new technologies are best implemented for the employees.
