As of March 2025, she will join the ORA-funded ClaimSov Project led by Julia Pohle on digital sovereignty, conducted in collaboration with the CNRS Centre Internet et Société in Paris and the Université de Montréal. The aim is to enhance the understanding of digital sovereignty by analyzing governance mechanisms and discourses. Marielle's focus will be particularly on the EU and China.

She holds a BA in Communication Science and China Studies, and an MA from King's College London in Big Data in Culture and Society. During her time at King’s, Marielle served as a research assistant studying the digital infrastructures of mobile apps, focusing on third-party tracking through SDKs.

Previously, she has lived, worked, and studied in various international contexts, including Austria, China, Germany, South Africa, and the UK.

Before joining the WZB, she was employed at the cultural department of the Goethe Institut in Beijing and also contributed as a curator for science and technology in the re:publica programme team.
